Artist Inspiration... Francesca Woodman

Today we turn our eyes to a young woman who used to reside in NYC. A gifted artist who is no longer with us, but left a mark on the art world. Her name is Francesca Woodman (1958-1981) and these are her fresh and raw images taken more than 30 years ago. She was a young woman ahead of her time in artistic expression. Born in a family of artists, she grew up with a strong drive to express herself. She studied at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) and excelled in creativity and individual expression. Many of her images were taken in an old empty house that she rented in Providence.  Sadly, Francesca took her own life at a very young age. If you'd like to learn more about Francesca go to this site.

I had the opportunity to view her exhibit a few months ago at the Guggenheim Museum in NYC. What a tremendous and inspiring exhibit it was. There is also a very interesting documentary on her life story with interviews with her parents who are devoted to keeping their daughter's memory and her work alive.
