A photographer's journal

These beautiful images are created by Ashley Lebedev a photographer out of Minneapolis. In addition to doing beautiful and creative work, Ashley loves to put together little photo journals or snippets from life. Recently she shared a journal from a trip across America and Switzerland. Her journal is very inspiring.  Click on this link to see her account on Facebook.

Ashley has a beautiful, artistic eye that can capture some of the simple, mundane and bring them to a level of art in her vignettes.

Today I have an exercise for all of you photographers, artists and creative souls... which is ALL of you.  Create a few vignettes today with things in your home and snap an image.... or go outside and view your little piece of the world from a different angle. Find the beauty around you. If you are going to a park or the beach, seek out small things that you would normally overlook and compose a beautiful image. Journal your day on camera - images of yourself, your family, special moments, funny parts of the day and make them as beautiful as possible. Don't photograph like a newspaper reporter, approach it from an artistic perspective. Use light and shadow to bring in mystery. Or breathe on your lens to bring a softness to your image. (The breathing thing comes from my friend Arthur Levi Rainville who creates magical and haunting images).

So today is for play.... take your camera or the camera on your phone (with a good art app like Hipstamatic) and go out into your world and work some magic... it's good for the soul!
